Maori Interest Group Committee Meeting

Present: Owen Ormsby, Brenda Joyce, Lorraine Rice

Apologies: Celia Geary, Bruce Mathers, Harete and Daniel Phillips

Maori Interest Group Awards

It was agreed that decisions re Awards to be made by the Committee and not to be retrospective.  To be awarded at the next immediate AGM after the decision has been made to present an Award.

 Open Maori Interest Group Meeting 28 November 2009.   9.30-12 noon

  • The purpose of the meeting is to establish a sub-group in Auckland with quarterly meetings.
  • Brenda to find out if there are NZSG guidelines we need to follow.
  • Te Puea Marae is booked.
  • Gold coin door charge.
  • Participants will be asked to bring a plate.
  • Suggested koha for the Marae $150.00.  Lorraine will supply the cash.  Brenda to direct credit Lorraine’s bank account from MIG account.

 Agenda Items

  • Agenda for the meeting to be published in November Te Reo and on MIG’s website 
  • Owen will arrange for a Powerpoint presentation.
  • Maori Interest Group’s contribution to the NZSG Family History Fair 2010 to be discussed.
  • Possibility of visits to the FRC and Auckland Public Library Family History Section (Robert Eruera) once the group is established.
  • Owen will explore the idea of a Kaumatua for the new Group.

 NZSG Family History Fair 2010

  • Owen will organise a Powerpoint presentation.  Possibly source material from Film Archives.
  • Owen and Lorraine will source a screen.  Maybe a loan from Te Puni Kokiri.
  • Lorraine will provide a large poster with MIG name and logo.  Harakeke.
  • Books and documents on display.
  • Special FHF reduced price for our Whakapapa guide book.
  • Visitors Information Pack.  To include pedigree chart, pages 1 & 2 from the Whakapapa guide, membership forms for NZSG and MIG.  Lorraine will get quotes for 300 and 500 packs.  No dates on the packs so any remaining can be used at a future date.
  • Owen will contact Sandra Metcalfe re facilities eg size of our display area, power outlets available.
  • Static Display.  Photos of families showing ethnic diversity.  Persons who loan photos or copies of photos required to sign a permission form authorizing display of each photo.  Persons in the photos not to be named.
  • Bruce’s new Website to be shown on a laptop or notebook.

 General Business

  1. Committee expenses.  To be on AGM 2010 agenda.
  2. Indexing names where people have only one name or use both Maori and English versions of their name.  When only one name this should be entered in the ‘given name’ field.  Double entries for more than one name.
  3. Keep a paper trail for correspondence.
  4. Greg Hickman in UK.  He is busy and unable to assist with research in the UK.
  5. Annette Larsen of New Plymouth Branch has requested help in finding burials in urupa.
  6. Maori BDM.  Brenda will find out if we can get permission to publish indexes to these on a CD or MIG website.
